Shrewsbury Cathedral

The Cathedral has embarked upon a major reordering and restoration scheme to this significant Grade II* Listed Pugin design. Mark Pearce of Kepczyk Pearce Sanderson was originally appointed to develop the proposals for the repair of the liturgical East Window to the Sanctuary which was, in effect, the first stage of the strategic vision for the reordering and restoration works. After its successful completion, the appointment was extended to encompass the whole of the reordering and restoration works.

To minimise disruption to the working Cathedral, it is envisaged that the reordering and restoration works will be implemented over a five-year period. This will also allow time for fundraising. Given the phased implementation, a similarly phased approach to the submission of Faculty Applications has also been undertaken. Designs for the fourth phase of works are currently in development and will include repositioning the font to its original location, refurbishing the confessionals, renewing the limecrete floor slab and associated floor repairs, amongst other issues. Future phases will involve the redecoration of the Cathedral, including the restoration of the painted decorative scheme.
